WINNER ‘Progress toward circularity’ Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2023

Emerge East

As a part of Emerge East, an annual festival organised by HemingwayDesign, Yodomo was invited to bring a range of reuse-focused maker workshops to Barking Riverside.

Sunglass cases and card holders made using Kvadrat sound insulation material samples

Yodomo worked with sound insulation textile samples provided by Kvadrat and devised simple pattens that workshop attendees could use to create two-tone wallets and laptop cases. The results were colourful, creative, and fun. Best of all, it meant materials otherwise destined for waste could be reimagined into useful items.

Through these workshops, residents of the Barking Riverside and visitors to Emerge East were introduced to circularity of materials and reuse of textiles, and they learned simple sewing skills to start them on their making journeys.

The event attracted an estimated 1800 attendees throughout the day with those arriving from the overground station, pier and residential areas.
